Critical Point: Navigating the World of Internet Criticism
The internet has changed the nature of criticism. Given access an immense audience, internet critics—both professionals and fans—have been able to form movements, use social media to affect change, and alter lives. While this greater level of connectivity has allowed vibrant new communities to form, it also raises questions about the line between creator, critic, and fan. Online criticism can spur witch hunts fueled by outrage and recrimination as often as it affects positive change. Join a panel of fans, critics, journalists, and academics as they discuss why criticism is important, how to handle being criticized, and the ways in which we can think and talk about media positively and inclusively.
